The 2019 Memorial Day Dayton Tornadoes hit some of the Miami Valley’s poorest zip codes the hardest. Five of the zip codes have a poverty rate 51% higher than the national average.

MV-Rebuilds is uniting people of faith and people of goodwill to serve those most impacted by the 2019 Memorial Day Tornadoes, the materially poor by:
  • Partnering with local leadership to assess volunteer opportunities.

  • Connecting and mobilizing volunteers and funders to opportunities.

  • Assisting partner volunteer organizations in embracing material poverty alleviation practices that help the poor without hurting them.

MV-Rebuilds will work with churches, local municipalities, private investors, state and federal government to:

  • Help home owners who did not have homeowners insurance, but suffered significant damage, to get the needed repairs so their home would be habitable again.

  • Rehab vacant properties for families suffering from material poverty, who lost their homes in the 2019 Memorial Day Dayton Tornadoes.

Who will this benefit?
  1. Those who lost their homes as a result of the tornadoes.

  2. Property owners in the municipalities where the vacant homes exist.

  3. Local municipalities, as they maintain their tax base.

  4. Local public schools, in keeping children in the district

 How will this project work?

  1. MV-Rebuilds will work with the leadership of local municipalities to identify and prioritize eligible citizens.

  2. The work will be done by volunteer labor whenever and wherever possible.

  3. MV-Rebuilds will work with local churches, businesses, local/national granting agencies to cover the cost of administration and materials.
